LogicaCMG's solution will provide Batelco with significant business benefits including the ability to create additional revenue opportunities, enhance system availability to support corporate service level agreements, and improve load sharing for high SMS traffic peaks.

Batelco's corporate clients will have the capability to offer bulk messages via the Internet. This new service will extend the customer relationship management services that Batelco provides to its corporate end-users, enabling them to target specific groups of mobile users. "The introduction of bulk messaging services is a key component of Batelco's strategy to enhance the services we offer our commercial customer base. Increasingly, businesses in Bahrain are considering short messaging as a vital customer communication tool, and our SMS enhancement initiative will increase the scope of messaging opportunities that we offer our corporate end-users," said a Batelco spokesman.

As part of its new SMS upgrade initiative, LogicaCMG will also provide Batelco with its Messaging Application Router for improved load sharing and advanced traffic management through LogicaCMG's SMSC. The Middle East is currently witnessing exponential growth of messaging for both personal and commercial use. Analyst group Gartner Dataquest forecast that the volume of text messages in 2002 exceeded 146 billion, anticipating that more than 168 billion messages would be sent during 2003.
