Sigrid Kaag, Netherland's Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation, will kick off the first Dutch virtual trade mission in the Gulf. With a delegation of nearly 100 Dutch businesses, the digital mission will be conducted from March 22 to April 1. With a growing world population, the need to consider the way we use scarce resources, such as water, energy and food is becoming extremely critical. To secure a sustainable future, the world needs to work collaboratively, smartly and practise innovative methods. This starts by connecting the three sectors, as actions in one sector have an immediate effect on the others. The digital trade mission aims to foster this collaboration between the Netherlands, the UAE and Oman at a broader scale.

The programme will include a series of thematic webinars with prominent experts from the three sectors and will strengthen the emphasis on the nexus between water, energy and food. The event will showcase best practices from Dutch companies and their role in improving UAE's food security system, besides setting up the Middle East's first fully high-tech automated farm at Dubai's Armela Farms. Water treatment systems supplier Holland Water, partnered with Culligan Middle East and now serves clients such as Emirates Catering, The Dubai Mall and the Dubai World Trade Centre. The virtual mission is a platform towards the Netherlands' participation at the upcoming Expo 2020 with the theme 'Uniting water, energy and food'. The Netherlands pavilion offers facilities to host meetings, seminars, conferences and network events. Various options to organise hybrid events with virtual platforms and live events simultaneously are available as well.
