OSyS helps Etihad cut fuel consumption and carbon footprint

Etihad needed a solution that delivered the ability to accurately measure post-production fuel consumption, identify inefficiencies in operational working procedures, and target areas for fuel savings.

With fuel representing the largest operational cost, and the need to mitigate the impact of volatile fuel prices, Etihad Airways realised they had to improve their fuel optimisation strategy. Having undertaken initiatives to deliver improvements, the next challenge was to identify which initiatives were providing savings, which required modification and which new initiatives to focus on. They required a more sophisticated measurement solution to unlock additional fuel savings and help them change operational behaviours.

Etihad needed a solution that delivered the ability to accurately measure post-production fuel consumption, identify inefficiencies in operational working procedures, and target areas for fuel savings.

They turned to Optimised Systems and Solutions (OSyS), as they felt confident they had the right blend of product, process and experienced personnel necessary to deliver their business objectives.

To establish a solid working partnership, OSyS collaborated in face-to-face engagements to identify a key set of data parameters, which were then extracted from the airline’s back office systems for analysis. Etihad agreed on prioritising their existing initiatives to maximise the benefits, and OSyS suggested other quick wins they could implement immediately.

OSyS relationship with Etihad developed throughout the project, and both teams combined experience to resolve issues that were encountered. For example, the airline now has a more consistent data set from which to base its fuel optimisation decisions.

Etihad with OSyS jointly developed custom views for their executives, managers, finance department and pilot users; ensuring tailored perspectives of their aircraft, fleet, trends, operational initiatives, efficiency factors and environmental initiatives.

Additionally, as a proven fuel management supplier, OSySwere able to provide on-site consultancy and training to maximise the use of the new solution and to equip Etihad with the skills to be self-sustaining.

To ensure a smooth transition from implementation to service, OSyS worked closely with Etihad to make sure that the solution was well publicised and that it had a high level of support within their organisation.

Etihad Airways appreciates the flexibility of this comprehensive solution and the on-going potential it presents for the airline. Indeed, within the first two months of service, they were able to realise significant savings in fuel costs and we have also reduced emissions.
