A young Emirati man has received serious injuries all over his body after the four-wheel drive car he was driving rammed into a heavy truck ahead.
Police sources told Khaleej Times on Thursday that the accident occurred around 1.15pm on the Emirates road, previously known as the Bypass road, opposite the emirate of Umm Al Quwain.
The Central Operations Room was alerted about the mishap involving four vehicles, a four-wheel drive car, two trucks, and a saloon car.
"Traffic patrols, ambulances, paramedics and rescue teams rushed to the site in record time."
Only the Emirati - in his thirties - driving the four-wheel drive car, was injured in the accident, they added.
"He has been shifted to the nearest hospital for treatment and medical care."
The Emirati has been held responsible for the accident as he was exceeding the set speed limit, they pointed out.
"Not paying attention on the road and ignoring traffic rules and regulations, the erring driver, who was heading from the emirate of Sharjah to the  emirate of Ras Al Khaimah, lost control over the steering wheel while trying to overtake a truck ahead."
What made the situation worse was that the driver of the truck ahead lost control over the steering wheel, veered off the road, and collided with another heavy truck parked on the roadside, the police further elaborated.
"The second truck driver skidded ahead and rammed into another four-wheel car that was parked on the roadside," they said.
Traffic police have urged all drivers to observe traffic rules, mainly speed limits and remain focused on the road.
"Speeding is blamed for most of the accidents that occur on the roads and highways of Umm Al Quwain."
Earlier in June this year, two Filipinas were killed in a traffic accident on the Etihad road in UAQ. The duo was travelling along with three others of different nationalities in a microbus when the driver lost control over the steering wheel and turned over several times.
The UAQ Traffic Police recently launched an intensive campaign to monitor traffic flow to curb reckless driving.
"More traffic patrols are deployed on the roads of the emirate to ensure road safety, particularly with the beginning of the new academic year."
