Heikki Johannes Kovalainen is a Finnish Formula One racing driver who races for Caterham F1. He drove for McLaren in 2008 and 2009 and Team Lotus in 2010 and 2011, before its rebranding to Caterham.

“This is a great partnership on many levels... it fits my larger focus on partnering with unique brands. As a Finn, Im also happy to be backing a Finnish company on a global platform.” This is the first time the gaming company has released a web-game under the stupendously successful brand name. Most people who have been on Facebook or are into gaming will know the fascination that the birds and the green pig in the game holds for people across all ages. Such has been the success of the brand that the Finnish company is now said to be the name behind the most successful mobile app ever.

The company probably never imagined what a winner it had on its hands when it launched the game. Such has been its influence that it now makes over 30% of its revenues from sales of Angry Birds merchandise (I recently saw the cool Angry Birds Speakers, iPhone and laptop skins). And before we forget it, that game alone has made the company, launched in 2003, think real big for itself and plans are afoot for an initial public offering sometime in 2013. There is also an Angry Birds animated Hollywood movie that is being made and going by the success of the mobile game-it has been downloaded over a billion times-we think it will be a blockbuster .

The new web game, meanwhile, will feature fun Angry Birds game levels with a racing theme in addition to other bespoke content. A mini site for the game is already live but we think the gaming company will have a few surprises up its sleeves for us, come June 18.

The tie-up between the two Finnish entities might come up with new Angry Birds offerings too. Already, the Formula 1 driver is sporting a cool red Angry Birds helmet and we heard a few game enthusiasts expressing the hope that they will be able to sport other Angry Birds characters on the racing track. Including a green pig. Will certainly add more color to the tracks, not to say excitement. Wives and celebrity girl friends notwithstanding.
