Addressing a consultative forum at Raffles Dubai Hotel, on Thursday, she pointed out the important role the elderly play in the family and society.

“It has always been the endeavour of the UAE to ensure the rights of the elderly people and show concern over their health,” said Al Roumi.

A national plan to provide the elderly with the best health care, housing and education over the next 20 years was discussed. The plan involves a proposal to the private sector to invest in providing social services. Home care, specialist medical services, and social programmes were also areas highlighted for investment.

Al Roumi added that challenges are posed by the rise in life expectancy to nearly 75 years.— news@khaleejtimes.com
