Sheikh Rashid bin Saqr Al Qasimi road in Sharjah will be closed for 20 days for development work, the Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority announced on Monday.

The Sharjah RTA also advised people to take alternative routes during this period.

Official sources at the authority said that the road between the Abar and Dasman areas shall be closed for maintenance works with effect from March 28.

"The development works on both directions of the road, to stand at Dh1.4 million, have been decided to be carried out during the school holiday to avoid traffic congestions."

The maintenance works of the road will start at the Dasman area for those heading from the Culture roundabout to the Sheikh Rashid bin Saqr Al Qasimi intersection from Tuesday, March 28 to Thursday, April 06.

"The development works will only be done for seven hours a day, from 11pm to 6am, on a daily basis."

The opposite part of the road extending from Abara area for those heading from the Sheikh Rashid bin Saqr Al Qasimi intersection to the Culture roundabout will kick off on Friday, April 7 to April 16. "This is also for seven hours a day; from 11pm to 6am."

The sources explained that the upper layer of the asphalt shall be removed and replaced with a new one. "The U-turn opposite the Sharjah Monuments Museum will be extended for those heading from the Culture square while the entire road shall be remarked."

"The road development, being done as per the highest international standards, will give a boost to the performance of the road and the entire road network of the emirate for the benefit of the public."
