The Royal Thai Consulate General in Dubai will observe a 30-day mourning period beginning on October 14 as a sign of respect on the passing away of King Bhumibol Adulyadej on Thursday.
"The consulate will lower the Thai national flag and ASEAN (Association of South East Asian Nations) flag for 30 days as a part of mourning, while the consulate officials will wear black ?for one year according to the (Thai) government guideline," Thai consul-general Unnop Buranasate told Khaleej Times.
"All festive activities will be suspended for one month but consular services will remain the same," Buranasate added.
A circular from the Royal Household of Thailand, distributed by the consulate, read: "His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej was admitted to Siriraj ?Hospital for medical treatment since October 3.... Although every possible care had been given by the Committee of Royal Physicians, His Majesty's condition had not recovered, but further deteriorated. His Majesty passed away peacefully at 15:52 hours on Thursday, October 13, at the age of 89 in the 70th year of His Majesty's reign."
Further announcements will be posted on the Thai community Facebook page (www.facebook.com/RTCGDXB), a Thai consular official said.
