Singapore Consul-General, Dileep Nair, in an interview with Khaleej Times, said that more than 400 Singaporeans in Dubai and the Northern Emirates will meet today at the Somerset Jadaf Residences in Dubai, for a social gathering to formally celebrate the occasion.
"This is the first time that the Singaporean community here will formally celebrate our independence day since we opened a consulate-general in Dubai only in September last year," Nair said.
In his invite sent out to Singaporeans in the emirates, Nair said, the function "will also be a good opportunity to socialise and catch-up with fellow Singaporeans".
The consul-general said Singaporeans in the UAE are mostly employed as professionals in multinational companies involved in the fields of consultancy, architecture, logistics, and engineering, among others.
"We are also continuously promoting a bilateral trade relations between UAE and Singapore, encouraging businessmen in the UAE to invest in Singapore and for investors back home to set up their businesses here," Nair said.
