Dubai: His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, late on Tuesday honoured the Dar Al Ber Society for ranking 5th among the local institutions which gave the maximum donations abroad in 2013.
The honouring of the most generous local, government and non-government institutions was run by the Ministry of International Cooperation and Development (MICD) for launching the annual report of the UAE report on foreign donations in 2013.
Khalfan Khalifa Al Mazrouie, Chairman of Dar Al Ber Society, said that the over 35-year-old charity association which have Dh126.4 million, came fifth among the local institutions which donated the most in the foreign countries in 2013.
“The map of Dar Al Ber donations shows that the development aids hit 34.74 per cent while the humanitarian assistance amounted to 1.57 per cent, and 63.68 per cent of the aids went for charitable contributions.”
The top five of the most generous 38 government institutions in the UAE which have given donations to 145 countries abroad included the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development, followed by the Khalifa Bin Zayed Humanitarian Foundation, the UAE Red Crescent Authority, and then the Dar Al Ber Society.
“The MICD report shows that the Dar Al Ber Society reached out its contributions to 38 Arab, African, Asian, and South American countries whereas part of the donations were specified to major projects in the Sudan, Egypt, Somalia, Syria, Lebanon, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, India, Palestine, Mali, Togo, China, Vietnam, Azerbaijan, Brasilia, Seychelles, and others.”
Abdullah Ali bin Zayed, Executive Director of the Dar Al Ber Society, said that the honour is a turning point in the history of giving in the country which scored highest worldwide by donating Dh21.36 billion across the globe in 2013.
“The MICD report shows that the Dar Al Ber Society, since its inception in 1978, has sincerely distributed its donations locally and abroad on a variety of activities, projects, and programs, spanning building mosques, schools, water wells, medical centres, orphanages, Quran study centres, apart from seasonal projects in the holy month of Ramadan, Adahi (sacrificial animals), pilgrimage, Eid clothing, free mass Iftar meals.”
