Russian President Vladimir Putin said Russia can play a key role in the Middle East as it has good relations with Iran and the Arab world.
He was speaking with Arab broadcasters ahead of his first visit to Saudi Arabia and the UAE today and tomorrow.
Putin said nobody in Saudi Arabia or the UAE wanted a confrontation with Iran.
Referring to the UAE, Putin said it is one of Russia's very "close and promising partners", saying that the partnership is "vigorously developing in all areas."
He also referred to the 'Declaration of Strategic Partnership' signed in June 2018, saying: "The signing of this document was not a coincidence, it demonstrated the quality and nature of relations between the UAE and Russia."
