Ajman Municipality has started privatization of cleanliness, waste management and pest control services in nine areas to achieve Ajman 2021 Vision that aims to build a green economy and boost sustainable development.
Speaking to Khaleej Times, Abdul Rahman Mohammed Al Nuami, Director General of Ajman Municipality and Planning Department (AMPD), said that the department is making concerted efforts to use the latest environment-friendly technologies and contribute to the preservation of health and safety of the people.
He added that AMPD is backing the specialized private sector to carry out services like cleanliness, waste management and pest control in nine areas in the Emirate, including the new industrial zone, industrial Al Jarf, Al Rawada, Muwaiteh, Rashidiya, Naimiya, Lwaira, Rumaila and Al Nakheel.
"We are implementing international standards in public cleanliness to ensure healthy environment for the residents in the emirate," he pointed out.
He said that the health department has started working on instilling environmental consciousness among all segments of the societies.
Al Nuaimi pointed out that AMPD has recently signed privatization contracts with local and foreign companies committed to providing latest mechanisms, including electronic systems.
He added that the department will use advanced equipment in waste management and recycling, with an emphasis on environment-friendly practices. "The role of the private companies will not only be limited to general cleaning and waste management services but also pest control by using the latest international methods. Al Nuaimi said that the companies will also be responsible for the daily collection of all types of trash and then transport them to waste segregation plants and landfills. Their job will also be to carry out automatic and manual sweeping of streets, sidewalks, pavements, central islands, public squares and open areas.
