Police to confiscate speedsters’ vehicles

AJMAN — The Ajman Traffic and Licensing Department has decided to confiscate all vehicles involved in traffic violations, particularly those involved in reckless driving for at least six months, according to Brigadier Mahmoud Abdullah, Director General of the Department.

He said that all vehicles caught flouting the speed limit as well as those that had installed equipment that changed the sound of the exhaust pipe would also be confiscated.

Brig. Abdullah explained that the move to confiscate had been taken because of the increasing number of the complaints from the public regarding the dangerous reckless driving by teenagers and young men in the residential areas of th emirate.

“This reckless driving can cause pedestrians and children in such areas death or permanent disability,” he said.

Brig. Abdullah pointed out that the department, in coordination with the criminal investigation section of Ajman police, will organise a traffice safety campaign next to curb reckless driving violations and minimise its risks to ensure safety among the public in all residential areas.

He stressed that the officers who will be deployed for vehicles' inspections in the residential areas will not tolerate those who endanger the life of the innocent people and they will immediately take legal action to punish the violators.

Brig. Abdullah said that during the campaign the officers will inspect the cars' validity and detect the vehicles with modified sounds and confiscate them if found violating the traffic safety rules. “The campaign's activities also will include confiscation of motor bikes which are not allowed on the roads.” he stressed

Brig. Abdullah added that the campaign was aimed at spreading safety awareness among young people and educating them about the importance of abiding by the traffic rules to ensure the safety and security of the public.
