The event is being organised by the Pakistan Business Council and will be attended by Dr Farooq Sattar, Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Overseas Pakistanis.

The celebration includes performances by prominent Pakistani artistes and singers.

Dr S. Qaiser Anis, president of the council, said they have invited prominent Pakistanis, including businessmen and professionals, living in Abu Dhabi, AI Ain, Dubai and Northern Emirates.

More than 800,000 Pakistanis live in the UAE, and the Overseas Pakistanis Minister is their representative in the Pakistan government.

The ministry was formed upon the request of overseas Pakistanis to attend to their affairs and interests in Pakistan, he said, adding that overseas Pakistanis remit billions of dollars to their country annually. Also, overseas Pakistanis play a leading role in foreign direct investment in their country.

This year, Pakistanis living in the UAE led in foreign exchange remittances to Pakistan through banking channels. In 2008, Pakistanis in the UAE ranked third in remittances after expatriates in the US and Saudi Arabia, Dr Anis said.

The minister’s visit will provide an opportunity to Pakistanis to discuss their issues with him so that he can convey their views to the government of Pakistan for action, he added.
