Office assistant gets 10-year jail for rape
DUBAI - An office assistant was sentenced to 10-year imprisonment on Tuesday as he was found guilty of raping a woman after he trespassed into her apartment before dawn. He was allegedly drunk at that time.
The Court of First Instance, presided over by judge Al Saeed Bargouth, also ordered that the 36-year-old Iranian be deported after serving his jail term.
He faced charges of rape, trespassing into other’s property and use of liquor.
The Indian complainant, who works as a service consultant, told the police that the incident happened in February last year.
She said it was about 4am when she heard the door-bell ringing. She looked through the peep hole and opened the door thinking it was the watchman.
But the defendant was at the door, and he walked into her apartment and locked the door behind him.
He allegedly made her lie on the ground and prevented from screaming. He then touched and kissed her. Though she bit his lips until they bled, he managed to undress her and rape her twice, ignoring her pleas to leave her alone. He then asked for her mobile number which she refused to provide. He, however, gave her his mobile number and told her to call him. He also threatened to go to her apartment again to have sex with her.
The victim then called the police.
An Emirati policeman said during investigation by the Public Prosecution that the Dubai police operation room was informed about a rape incident in an apartment in Rigga.
He added that when they arrested the defendant, he was very scared and tense.
According to the report of the General Department of Criminal Evidence, the DNA of the semen traces found in the woman matched with the defendant’s.
