Hassan Al Saab, Head of the invest and Auqaf properties section at Sharjah General Secretariat of Auqaf, said that the six-storey buildings are very old. The complex earlier used to house a marine academy which was affiliated to the Arab League. After the academy was shut down, the complex was transferred to endowment buildings to support SEF managed by the General Secretariat of Auqaf.

He pointed out that the demolition process will take three months. The construction of the new complex will take more than three years to be completed. The new endowment project will include a comprehensive model housing complex with hotels, commercial centre, and multi storey parking lots.

Al Saab said that the project part of the department’s investment plan.

The families living in the building were evicted it in March. “They were given enough notice period to arrange of alternative accommodation before disconnecting utilities services, Al Saab said. afkarali@khaleejtimes.com
