The four selected NBAD explorers will join this month the annual voyage to the Frozen Continent in “2041 International Antarctica Expedition”, a movement that annually organizes trips to Antarctica to highlight the effects of global warming and to ensure the continued protection of Antarctica from mining and exploitation beyond year 2041, when the current international agreement ends.

The NBAD explorers are Khaled Ameeni, Junior Credit Analyst in the Risk Management Division; Majed Al Hamli, Senior Officer of Cash Management and Investigations in the Global Markets Operation; Mohammed Al Ansari, Senior Network Engineer, Information Technology Department; and Omar AlShamsi- Vice President of Institutional Coverage, Global Financial Markets.

“The NBAD women who voyaged to Antarctica last year proved that our decision was correct: they represented in the best manner our culture of care, charity, generosity, and our people’s concern about preserving and protecting environment,” says Ehab Hassan, the Group Chief Human Resources Officer of NBAD. “Therefore, we decided to again support 2041 International Antarctica Expedition’s noble goals and also allow other NBAD employees to benefit from the life lessons they can learn from this challenging expedition.”

They will join the other explorers from around the world in Ushuaia, Argentina. The journey by ship to southern most continent begins February 28 and ends March 13.

“NBAD has a pool of highly motivated and high calibre UAE nationals and this challenge would allow them to further their personal talents and at the same time serve as ambassadors of our nation and culture,” Mr. Hassan says.

The explorers will experience the wildlife of the frozen continent, live and breathe a sustainable lifestyle, and learn about the importance of preserving natural resources and the role of renewable energy in balancing the ecosystem. In addition to environmental knowledge and sustainable practices, the expedition is designed to develop personal and leadership skills.

NBAD selected the 4 ambassadors through a competitive application process from high potential UAE nationals who demonstrates adaptability, personal ownership, teamwork, delivering results, building relationships and leadership skills.

“Our sponsorship and support for a second year is in part motivated by NBAD’s commitment to become a sustainable bank and encourage and promote sustainable leadership and behavior,” says Belinda Scott, the Senior Manager of Corporate Sustainability at NBAD. “Moreover, sponsoring the voyage of young UAE nationals would 1) help them enhance their leadership and team-building skills; 2) offer them the opportunity to represent the UAE and Arabian culture and work with young people from around the globe in doing something positive for the environment. We hope their trip would further highlight the goals of 2041 International Antarctica Expedition.”
