Man falls victim to reckless driving in Al Ain

AL AIN — Akhtar Husain, a 27-year-old Pakistani man, died while Mohammed Ali Mohammed, a 24-year-old Jordanian, was critically injured in a mishap on Al Ain-Al Wegan highway, near Shiyab Al Ghaf area.

The accident occurred on Monday when Mohammed Ali’s car ran over Akhtar Hussain.

Speaking to Khaleej Times, Fahmi Abu Bakr Mubarak, an investigator from the Al Ain Civil Defence Department, said that the Jordanian too lost control after hitting the man and the vehicle turned over several times.

A team from the Civil Defence as well as the Ambulance and Rescue Unit of Al Ain Police rushed to the scene. They had to cut the car in order to save injured Mohammed Ali.

In another incident, 47-year-old Aisha Sultan Al Amry, a UAE national, lost consciousness due to heavy smoke after a fire broke out in her house last Tuesday.

“The incident occurred in the house of Abdulla Sallom Al Amry in New Markhaniyah area. The sitting-room was completely gutted and caused Dh15,000 losss,” said Mubarak.

Another fire erupted in the kitchen of Abdulla Sultan Al Ka’aby house in Oud Al Toubah area.

“The lessee, Atif Abdulazeem, an Egyptian, was slightly injured and moved to the Al Ain Hospital for treatment,” he added.

He said that the loss was estimated at Dh10,000.
