Imran Khan vows to make KP a model province

Islamabad: With broom in hand, Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf chairman Imran Khan inaugurated "Clean and Green Peshawar" campaign vowing to make Khyber Pakhtunkhawa (KP) a model province for the entire country in terms of good governance and delivery of basic services to the people.
Imran launched the 20-day drive which aimed at restoring its reputation of green city of flowers. He said over 200,000 street children die annually because of pollution and dirty atmosphere in cities.
Imran also referred to his campaign of plantation and expanding forest areas by planting a billion trees by the end of PTI-led coalition government's term in 2018 in the province.
Already this campaign is being pursued vigorously and about 250 million plants would have grown by March next, he said. New parks would be built.
In a lighter vein, Imran said: "I don't know whether our government in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will continue till 2018 or not because Mian Sahib (Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif) can commit political suicide anytime".
He said Peshawar city has strategic location for Pakistan and the Central Asia and should be developed as a model city.
While the old city and its historical places must be preserved, it should grow as a modern metropolis, Imran said.
The Balahisar Fort would be refurbished with parks, recreational facilities and restaurants. Sports stadium would be built in every local councils, he said, adding that vast areas occupied by jails in Peshawar and other cities would be shifted outside city limits and converted into parks.
