A team of second year B.Tech students at the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur developed an interconnected app, CARE4U, that ensures immediate assistance for the elderly when in need.
The neural network-based fall detection algorithm in the app installed on the phone of the elderly can detect whether the elderly has fallen down.
If there is a fall, it automatically calls the caregiver and emergency services with the location of the elderly person.
The app, which bagged the first runner-up award at the vesAIthon 2019, connects caregivers to the elderly, and features a cognitive intelligent chatbot, which upon interaction, can detect emotions and calculate mood index.
It utilises this data to fine-tune its conversations and improve moods of the elderly.
CARE4U also contains a record of medical history and features such as medicine reminder, an SOS button, real-time location tracking, phone calls, text messages, booking cabs, etc.
