The arrest was preceded by a 30-minute hot chase when the accused tried to flee from the scene of crime. The police refused to identify the arrested man.

The murder took place at 5.00am in the apartment shared by the two in Osman Ibn Affan Street in Al Karama District. The two got into a fight and the accused beat up his friend resulting in the latter's death. On interrogation, the accused confessed to the murder, stating that he killed his friend with his bare hands after he abused him.

A source from the Criminal Research Section of Ajman Police Department told Khaleej Times that Saeed Mohammed Sultan and Hassan Al Swaid, officers from the Patrol and Follow-up Section, were dispatched by the operations room following a tip-off from the neighbours who were witness to the crime.

The two officers, on reaching the crime spot, found the accused preparing to escape. After 30 minutes of chase, the officers succeeded in arresting the accused whose clothes and hands were stained with blood, and detained him in the city station. While the forensic pathologist was called to investigate the crime, officers from the Investigation Section inspected the apartment.

Brigadier-General Ali Majid Al Matroushi, Director-General of Ajman Police, hailed the efforts of the officers in maintaining security in the emirate.

The Directorate-General of Ajman Police Department organised a function yesterday where the two officers were honoured with certificates of appreciation for the courage they had shown in arresting the culprit.
