If any company is found violating health rules, the company will be shut down and its licence withdrawn, warned Shaikh Rashid Al Nuiami, Chairman of Ajman Department of Municipality and Planning.

He said, "We have recently received instructions to ensure that the drinking water companies in Ajman are following hygiene standards to ensure water quality."

Commenting on the water shortage in the emirate, Shaikh Rashid told Khaleej Times that currently the emirate is depending on six huge water tanks. "But with rapid development in the emirate, the Ajman Government has requested the Federal Electricity and Water Authority to increase the number of water tanks to meet the needs of all consumers."

About the ongoing infrastructure project, Shaikh Rashid said the municipality in coordination with departments of traffic and licence has set up an operation room.

"The operations room is equipped with technically-advanced cameras that cover all traffic signals in the emirate. It will be managed by the traffic department and supervised by the municipality," he explained.

He also clarified that the responsibility of the municipal staff in the operation room would be to ensure that all cameras are functioning.
