The minister accompanied by the Consul-General of Eritrea, Youhans Teclemichael, visited Khaleej Times yesterday to learn about its experience in news production, as it is considered the No. 1 English daily in the region.

The minister along with Kamal Raj Shah, COO, Galadari Printing and Publishing, and Hassan Rafat, Editorial Adviser, toured all the sections of the newspaper including editorial, City Times, production room, printing room and its computerised systems department, as well as the computer to plate (CTP) section where he learned about the digital and electronic process from the editorial preparation to the printing operation.

The minister evinced interest in a possible media cooperation between Khaleej Times and the Eritrean Ministry of Information as well as exchange of experiences between the KT and the print media in Asmara, the Capital of Eritrea, in terms of news production.

Ahmed expressed his appreciation of the UAE's role in developing several terminals and infrastructure projects in his country and hailed the efforts made by the late president, Shaikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, in supporting the Eritrean issue before the independence of Eritrea.

He pointed out that Eritrea and the UAE have strong relations based on historical, religious and cultural backgrounds.

“This encourages Eritreans to learn a great deal from the experiences of the UAE in general and Dubai in particular in terms of economic development,” he said.

Ahmed said his visit to the UAE aims at enhancing cooperation between the two countries in various fields.

He said he held talks with the UAE Minister of Information, Shaikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and discussed cultural cooperation and plans for exchanging satellite TV programmes.
