A guide to what the programme means, who can apply, its benefits, and the participating schools
According to Dr Elke Kaschl Mohni, director of Goethe Institute, every visitor to Goethe Institute will now be able to watch the DW programmes in German, English, Spanish and Arabic languages.
DW is broadcasting both news and current affairs, as well as documentaries on arts and cultures, mainly focusing on subjects from Germany and other European countries.
Chris Lanz, DW programming director, told Khaleej Times that the channel will extend its Arabic language transmission beginning with spring next year, from three hours daily to eight hours.
“DW is actually a satellite channel, so anyone subscribing to Hotbird or Nilesat can view its programmes,” explained Lanz. In UAE, the Arabic language programmes are currently broadcast between 10pm–1am and from spring 2007 they will be from 9pm – 5am.
Present at yesterday’s inauguration, Erik Bettermann, director general of DW, said that the German TV channel and Abu Dhabi TV have already started a good cooperation three years ago.
