The agreement was signed by Qasim Sultan Al Bana, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Dohms, and by Mohammed Abdullah Al Gergawi, Executive Director of Dubai Holding.

Sultan stressed the importance of this agreement during a Press conference yesterday following the signing ceremony. He said that the agreement aims to strengthen and expand avenues of cooperation between the two medical establishments in order to raise the standard and quality of healthcare in the emirate, which today enjoys an excellent international reputation in the medical field.

The MoU covers specific areas including medical education and continuous medical education; raising the standard, knowledge and skill level of healthcare workers and medical practitioners through exchange of expertise and training programmes; working to set up advanced scientific research institutions; and working to re-examine healthcare policies and legislation and unifying medical terminology and titles.

Sultan said that the agreement also focuses on exchange of technical expertise through organising joint visits between specialists and doctors in various medical specialities and moving towards the introduction of advanced technology to medical establishments to achieve the best standard of medical care. The MoU also covers cooperation in holding medical conferences and exhibitions.

Gergawi said that the MoU embodies the vital role that Dubai healthcare City will play in raising the standard of medical education and training in the UAE and the region as a whole.

He stressed that the presence of several world-class educational institutions (at the DHCC) will offer an unprecedented opportunity to produce medical professionals at a high degree of proficiency, in addition to helping to improve the skills of medical practitioners locally and regionally.

Gergawi said that cooperation with the Dohms is a vital first step in improving the standard of care in the healthcare sector in the UAE. He said the MoU will accelerate the growth of the healthcare sector in the country in view of the huge resources both the Dohms and DHCC have at their disposal.
