Doctors at a Mumbai hospital halted the leg surgery of a 45-year-old man to film a cockroach in the operation theatre.
According to the Times of India, senior orthopedic surgeon Dr Sanjay Baranwal, who was performing surgery at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Hospital halted the procedure to film the cockroach. The doctor intended to bring the attention of the administration to the poor and unhygienic conditions of the hospital.
The doctor has previously made several complaints about the pest problem without seeing any results on ground.
The hospital dean, C Maitra was quoted as saying by Times of India that the scrap material lying in a passage between the operation theatre and an intensive care unit may have attracted pests and it would be cleared soon. But she refused to comment on the presence of a cockroach in the surgery room.
Dr Baranwal, shared the video with the dean. "I have already submitted the video to the hospital authorities; I can't comment further," Dr Baranwal said.
