The wooden dhow, which sailed from the Khor Fakkan Port, apparently developed a problem because of overloading and poorly maintained hull, according to sources.

A source from the Sharjah Police said three seamen were rescued from the dhow.

Officials at the Khor Fakkan Port said,“Sailors in other commercial dhows and boats that departed from the port noticed that the dhow was slowly tilting and they heard the crew on board calling for help," said the source.

"Three divers were sent to rescue the seamen and to salvage the sunken dhow," said Captain Waleed Mohammed Al Nahm, head of the police outpost at Khor Fakkan Port.

He said the rescue operation was conducted in cooperation with the Sharjah Police Rescue Mission and the Coast Guard. Captain Al Nahm said the dhow which entered the region's waters on November 3 was overloaded with goods which could have damaged its wooden logs, resulting in the problem.
