DUBAI - Both motorists and passengers registering on the recently launched car pooling web site (www.sharekni.ae) of the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) are a confused lot.

According to them, the web site does not have the names of some of the areas in both Dubai and Sharjah where they intend to travel daily.

"Only two days back, I registered on the web site as a passenger and then tried to search for a suitable driver. During the search, one first needs to enter the place of origin, that is the name of the emirate he lives in. Then select the area in the emirate where you live.

“The different locations listed on the web site do not include some popular residential areas like the King Faisal Road in Sharjah where I live. I checked the site again on Tuesday and still could not find the place. Now, I am in a fix," said Sanaullah Mohammed Khan, a Pakistani national.

A person wanting to search for either a driver or a passenger needs to click in the search options on the site, following which a page opens, which asks him to first select the emirate in which he lives.

If the person selects Sharjah, there is a list of names of areas in the emirate, and the person needs to click on the area where he lives. There is no option for people to key in their areas. After this, the person needs to select a time and then the emirate to which he would like to travel.

"I live in the Al Nahda area in Sharjah and need car pooling service to go to Al Quoz in Dubai. Just four days ago, I was searching for a driver and needed to fill in the destination. The list of the areas in Dubai did not have Al Quoz.

“I searched again on Tuesday and found the area finally in the list," said Akmal Siddique, an Indian who has registered as a passenger.

Ashish Sharma, who works in the Media City, said that he could not find his destination in the areas listed under Dubai.

An official of the Customer Care Centre at the RTA said, "We have been getting quite a few calls regarding the new web site. At the moment, we are in the process of uploading the names of all the areas in both Dubai and Sharjah. Once this is done, people will not face any problem."
