SHARJAH - The economic diversification programme being followed by the UAE has succeeded in generating hundreds of thousands of jobs in several key sectors, including banking and finance. The National Career Exhibition (NCE), to be held at Expo Centre Sharjah from February 22 to 24, will be the perfect platform for national graduates to make the most of this expanding job market, said its organisers.

The number of Emiratis entering the banking and finance sector has been witnessing a consistent rise, with banks, insurance firms, currency exchanges and other financial institutions opening up enough employment and training opportunities for the UAE youth.

Announcing the highlights of the exhibition at a Press conference here on Tuesday, Saif Mohammed Al Midfa, Director-General of Expo Centre Sharjah, said, “The UAE is developing as a knowledge-based economy where human capital is seen as an engine of growth. Opportunities are plenty for national graduates and the National Career Exhibition will help them choose the right path to be high achievers in their careers.” Speaking about the current job market, Midfa said, “The UAE has been recognised as the most diversified economy in the Middle East and the banking and finance sector is generating more job opportunities.”

According to a recent job market survey, though the investment banking sector is struggling in the wake of the Eurozone crisis, employment prospects in retail and corporate banking are looking brighter. The insurance industry is also expected to see positive conditions, while money exchanges, free zones, financial consultants and government departments hold good potential.

Highlighting the buoyancy of the sector, thousands of jobs, training and internship opportunities at several leading banking and financial institutions will be on offer at the 14th edition of the National Career Exhibition.

The event is held under the patronage of His Highness Dr Shaikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, and will see more than 100 local and regional exhibitors taking part.

The banking sector is on the right track with its Emiratisation programmes. A slew of measures have been initiated to groom national graduates to take up jobs in the private sector, including several federal and emirate level bodies, budget allocations, the Khalifa Fund and a comprehensive Emiratisation database, among others.

Banks and several financial institutions have been proactive in this regard, by introducing their own training and skill development programmes, and offering nationals enough opportunities for career growth. The NCE will continue to be the best platform that helps Emirati graduates prepare for their careers in financial establishments.

The organisers also pointed out that the impressive participation of government organisations reflects the importance they place on nurturing the national human capital.

Apart from federal and emirate level entities, the UAE Air Force and Navy will also have a stand at the exhibition for the second time in a row, offering prestigious career options and at the same time a direct opportunity to serve the country. The Forces will be looking for qualified graduates for their technical job openings.

To provide a holistic approach in preparing the UAE youth to take up responsible positions in various sectors, the exhibition will also feature a Higher Education Pavilion. This will be a boon for those looking for avenues to equip themselves with better skills and prepare themselves for top-level jobs. Apart from job and training opportunities in these organisations, the exhibition will have additional activities in the form of workshops, symposia, counselling and discussion sessions, prominent among them being the seminars to be organised by the Sharjah HR Department on Leadership and Management Skills for fresh graduates.

The National Career Exhibition will be organised by Expo Centre Sharjah in association with the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Emirates Institute for the Banking and Financial Studies.
