Brigadier Ali Saeed Al Matroushi, Director of Traffic and Accident Section of the department and member of the Board of Council of Ajman Transport Corporation, said plate numbers of the taxis would be withdrawn gradually and transferred to the new taxi fleet of the corporation.

The number of private taxis currently in the emirate was estimated at 2500. By the end of the year, the number would come down to 1500 and the Transport Corporation would begin services for the public from January 1 2006. The corporation yesterday signed an agreement with the Cars company to provide Ajman with 400 taxis and vans as it was planning to provide van transport services within the emirate to ease traffic congestion.
