An agreement was signed today between the Institute of Applied Technology and ADCO. The two parties also agreed that AD Polytechnic will hold advanced specialized courses to develop ADCO’s working skills.
This came in conclusion of the extensive meeting held by officials at AD Polytechnic at the Applied Technologies Complex in Mohammed bin Zayed City, aiming to train and qualify specialized national graduates to work directly in ADCO in particular, and for the Oil and Gas sector in General.
The meeting was chaired by Dr. Abdullatif AlShamsi, the Institute’s managing director, and Eng. Abd El Moneim Saif Al Kindi, General Manager at ADCO, part of the ADNOC group. The meeting was attended by Dr. Ahmed Al Awar, Associate Director at AD Poly and other ADCO employees.
The meeting, according to ADCO’s General manager, comes in alignment with plans and efforts made by ADNOC and its related companies to provide qualified national cadres highly required by oil and gas companies, especially with the noticeable scarcity in the work market.
He also noted the highly sought cooperation between ADCO and other institutes that provide conclusive career programs such as AD Poly and IAT, this cooperation embodied in ADCO’s constant support to ensure hiring graduates in ADNOC companies as well as pursing their university studies in Petrochemical Engineering.
Eng. Al Kindi affirmed the role the meeting plays in the emiratization strategy that ADNOC follows and aims to increase to 75% by 2017.
Dr. Abdullatif Al Shamsi confirmed at the start of the meeting that AD Poly has been working for over two years on qualifying and training its students in advanced engineering field to contribute to filling the gap in the need for qualified and specialized cadres. He added that a high percentage of IAT students study to obtain bachelors and higher diplomas in Petrochemical engineering to be taken under sponsorship contracts from ADNOC where they get hired once they graduate, stating that 1000 Emirati National students graduate yearly and work in advanced projects that fit their specialization.
Dr. Al Shamsi has also explained that the curriculum at the institute includes organizing exchange trips in different industrially advanced countries such as Germany, Japan, Korea, USA , France, to forge the professional personality of the students and prepare them to meet the working environment requirements once they commence their career in the national industries. And in this respect, Dr. Al Shamsi affirmed the institute’s efforts aiming at increasing the number of its graduates and the AD Poly graduate in general to reach 30% of the total UAE students.
On his part, Dr. Ahmad Al Awar presented a demonstration of the Polytechnic’s strategy and its various engineering specialties executed according to the highest academic standards of higher education which relates to the needs of all associations. He also confirmed AD Poly’s readiness to organize training courses to improve the performance level of the current employees in the different specialized associations.
And on his part, Prof. Abdelaziz Khlaifat , head of petrochemical engineering technology at AD Poly, confirmed that the program includes all engineering and technical operations carried out by a professional engineer in the oil and gas field, adding that students are trained for these operations throughout their whole academic duration at the AD Poly and in the elite national and international associations, thus ensuring a well-rounded experienced student able to undertake all responsibilities upon graduation.
