Major-General Ali Abdullah bin Alwan Al Nuaimi, Commander-in-Chief of the RAK Police, said these surveillance cameras "have proved to be efficient in boosting security levels in the emirate". "We have managed to arrest many criminals, and curb crimes in a significant way with the help of these cameras that cover the entire emirate."
Additionally, the police are also working on another project, where "all the roads, entrances and exits of the emirate will be put under surveillance round the clock", Maj-Gen Al Nuaimi disclosed. "The operation room of the RAK Police will be linked with live cameras to enhance security in the emirate.
"All the roads of the emirate shall be covered with a network of interconnected cameras that track each and every car from the very moment it enters the emirate until its exits."
These cameras will help detect and track all errant drivers, whether they are involved in traffic or security violations, he explained.
The new system, scheduled to be launched after six months, is equipped with "advanced features that help identify the faces of violators and wanted criminals", he underlined.
"It will live transmit all the collected data to the operations room of the RAK Police, and this will help stop violators and wanted criminals in a record time."
This under-study system is separate from the Hemaya (or protection) system, which will see the installation of security cameras on all commercial, occupational and residential buildings in the emirate.
A third security scheme in the emirate will see the police initiate a visual connection between the banks operating in the emirate and the police departments concerned.
"The new live video system is slated to replace the audio alarm in use and start operation within two months," said Maj-Gen Al Nuaimi.
