7 nabbed while stealing cables from Sewa station

SHARJAH - The Sharjah Police have arrested seven Pakistani nationals who allegedly tried to steal high pressure cables from a power station of the Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority (Sewa).

A source from the Sharjah Police said that the police was tipped off regarding the suspects’ plan as they had offered a bribe to the watchman of the station to allow them to get into the station and steal the cables.

The suspects were dealing with one of the scrap companies located in Sharjah industrial area. The suspects even brought a truck in preparation to load the cables.

The suspects were caught red-handed while they were busy stealing the cables. During police interrogation, all the suspects confessed to the crime and said that they were planning to sell it to a scrap company. The suspects were referred to the Sharjah Public Prosecution.

The Sharjah Police have urged the scrap companies, which deal with electrical cables, to check the source of the cables and the bills and not to buy any product unless they are sure of its whereabouts. The police also said thatthe police will take action against shop owners if they are found involved in buying stolen items.
