Bahrainís Culture Ministry has banned selling and serving of alcohol or hosting any shows with Arab and foreign artists at three-star hotels.

The ministry said in a statement on Friday that the decision has been taken following reports of some immoral activities taking place in some hotels. The ministry warned of legal action against violators.

Similar decision was implemented in 2009 for one and two-star hotels. Although the Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry backed the decision of the ministry, it urged for a grace period to protect the owners and investors of those hotels from major losses. The ministry said that a series of meetings were held with owners and managers of such hotels before taking the decision which should not come as a surprise to them.
