Women key for SMEs

MUSCAT The deliberation of the first GCC Businesswomen Forum was concluded in Muscat on Tuesday, which was organised by the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry in conjunction with the Federation of GCC Chambers of Commerce.

The forum stressed the importance of involving women in small and medium enterprises, or SMEs, as they are one of the sources that enrich social development, in addition to preparing new curricula to train female entrepreneurs.

This came in a communique of the forum, which recommended the reactivation of the Businesswomen Committee that falls under the Federation of GCC Chambers of Commerce, and the importance of availing the integration between GCC countries in all technical and economic fields, as well as benefiting from challenges and setting up strategic system to encourage women to be innovative and creative in their business.

Sessions of the forum came up with the importance of involving businesswomen in developing policies and developmental plans through their participation in governmental committees and local institutions, as well as impeding the obstacles facing them, and setting up special programmes to invest the money of GCC businesswomen, in addition to the importance of assessing their economic development process.

The communique also stressed the importance of highlighting the participation of businesswomen in the industrial sector and disseminating the culture of industrial work among them, as well as the importance of the contribution of the Gulf Organisation for Industrial Consulting in supporting the participation of businesswomen in the industrial sector.

It also underlined the importance of enhancing role of businesswomen in the labour market through applying standards of sustainable development in qualifying and training programmes.

The forum stemmed from the effective role of women in economic and social life, and their real participation in programmes of comprehensive development.

The forum presented the latest economic developments and what is related to availing effective solutions for the challenges facing GCC businesswomen.
