12 electric cable thieves arrested

UMM AL QUWAIN — The Umm Al Quwain Police have arrested a gang of 12 men of different nationalities for stealing electric cables from buildings under construction.

Major Saeed Obaid Saif, Director of the CID Section of the Umm Al Quwain Police, said they received a large number of complaints about the thefts from owners of buildings and contracting companies.

A team was formed to investigate the series of thefts.

One of the gang members, who was arrested, divulged the whereabouts of other members, aged between 17 and 30 years, it was learnt. They were all reportedly unemployed and staying in the country on invalid residency visas.

During interrogation, all the members admitted to committing the thefts. The case has been referred to the Public Prosecution.
