The march, led by Shaikh Yas bin Hamdan Al Nahyan, will start at 10.30am from the Hilton Hotel and will end at 12pm in front of the Marina Mall.
“This is part of a series of events we are organising for the IVD in order to raise awareness about charity work,” said Mohammed Al Otaiba, head of Red Crescent’s volunteering section.
The Red Crescent Society’s programme for the IVD is beginning with the release of stamps. The Emirates Post has released Dh2 and Dh4 stamps carrying images of Red Crescent volunteer work.
Fahad Eisa Al Housani, Assistant Director General for the Emirates Post – Abu Dhabi zone, said postal stamps are a way of spreading awareness about important issues and events.
“We have been releasing stamps to commemorate local and international events for a number of years and we are happy to do so on this occasion too.”
According to Al Otaiba, the charity organisation is also preparing a one-day conference, to be held on December 10, on the subject of volunteering.
“There are 100 million volunteers throughout the world, but only 10 per cent of them are active and we need to find ways of increasing this number,” Al Otaiba told Khaleej Times.
