Two more prominent Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leaders on Thursday joined dissident leader Mustafa Kamal accusing party leadership of driving the Urdu-speaking community from civilised sections of the Pakistani society to be identified as militants and terrorists.
Waseem Aftab, former member of MQM's Rabita Committee and Iftikhar Ahmed, member Sindh Assembly announced their dissociation from Altaf Hussain's leadership. Iftikhar was elected lawmaker from MQM's 'NineZero', headquarters of the party.
Earlier, Dr Saghir Ahmed, former health minister resigned from basic membership of the party and as member of the Sindh Assembly.
Speaking to media, Wasim Aftab said the MQM had been cut off from national mainstream and became an ethnic entity. He repeated allegation that MQM chief Altaf Hussain had indulged in running his politics on dead bodies of dedicated workers and playing into the hands of Indian spy agency RAW.
"We belonged to a community that represented literate people of the country but today, MQM workers have become a sign of fear and bad reputation," Aftab said and added that Altaf will never be tried by British courts on charge of accepting funds from RAW because the British government would never like to expose India's terrorism role.
"Many children lost their future, women became widows and several others left this country with the label of terrorism," Aftab said.
Iftikhar Ahmed said he is joining the Kamal group on a one-point agenda to build a strong united Pakistan. He said majority of MQM workers have felt disillusioned by the direction and conduct of MQM leadership but we're struggling with the sense of fear.
He said he believed in a united Pakistan while Altaf is undermining national unity and integrity by raising divisive issues.
"It was time to think, to ponder upon the fact that the man we worked for so tirelessly and even sacrificed our lives, was actually at the forefront of letting this nation down," Iftikhar said in an apparent reference to MQM supremo Altaf Hussain.
