The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) is leading re-polling for local government elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa by securing 52 district council seats and 27 tehsil council seats, according to unofficial results on 382 polling stations.
According to unofficial results of 109 district councils received so far, the PTI has bagged 52 seats, independent candidates secured 24 seats, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) 14, the Awami National Party (ANP) 9 while the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), the Jamaat-e-Islami and the Qaumi Watan Party (QWP) have secured 3 seats each.
Unofficial and unconfirmed results of 97 tehsil councils seats also put the PTI in the front with 27 seats. Independent candidates have secured 27 tehsil council seats, JUI-F is leading in 15, ANP 12, while the Pakistan People's Party (PPP) and the QWP have both secured four seats each. The re-polling took place on 362 polling stations on Thursday under strict security after local government elections on the 362 seats held in late May were declared void following widespread reports of rigging and irregularities. The re-polling was held in Peshawar, Nowshera, Charsadda, Mardan, Swabi, Hangu, Karak, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, DI Khan, Abbottabad, Mansehra and Buner districts.
