Kalimat Group has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with French publisher Gallimard to build communication bridges between the Arabic language and other languages.
The agreement aims to cement Kalimat Group's role as an ambassador for literary arts, classic storytelling and inspirational diversity, not just for Sharjah and the UAE, but for the entire Arab world, with an end-goal to position the UAE as a beacon for cross-cultural values.
Signed by Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, Founder and CEO of Kalimat Group, and Hedwige Pasquet, president of Gallimard Jeuness, the MoU is considered by the two parties as a "stepping stone for Arabic and French readers" to experience new genres and insights which have been closed to them because of language barriers.
The collaboration will see the companies exchanging the same number of books to be published each year, with Kalimat Group translating Gallimard's works into Arabic and Gallimard reciprocating by translating Kalimat Group's titles into French.
