Richard Mullen spurred A. Al Hammadi trained Dig Dragon to round two honours in the Al Ain Marathon Series in the Dh100,000 feature event on the Al Ain Racecourse dirt track, on Friday night.
Keeping pace with the early pace setters and finally holding on to the outside in the 3,200m race, the winning entry from Gate 3, came on strongly to finish in a time of 3 minutes and 48.86 seconds ahead of an impressive field. Pre-event favourite Haanoof, Nacer Samiri atop, and trained by George Buckell, finished second as Rb Rich Surprise with Tadhg as rider, and E Lemartinel as trainer, grabbed the third spot.
Earlier, Tha'Er saddled by SH Al Mazrouei and ridden by Frederik Tylicki, won the card opening Wathba Stud Farm Cup. In the second race - 'Dubai', a TB Handicap over a distance of 1,600m - saw Lanadam, Fernando Jara atop, and trained by Dhruba Selvaratnam cross the line first while Men Alemarat enjoyed similar success as Tadhg O'Shea spurred the entry, trained by E. Lemartinel. The gate 8 entry outpaced the rest of the Al Sharjah event entries over a distance of 2,000 on dirt.
Race 4 saw Al Waqqad come home early thanks to the efforts of rider George Buckell and trainer A. Al Alawi, in the Umm Al Quwain stakes over 2,000m on dirt.
Mahbooba enjoyed success in the Ras Al Khaimah maiden event run on dirt over 1,600m. The horse trained by E Lemartinel and steered by Gerald Avranche hit the line in 1minute 51.53 seconds.
E. Charpy got Jabal Aly to accelerate in time while on the home stretch immediately after the final bend for an emphatic triumph in the Ajman 1,600m sixth race. The Paul Hanagan trained entry impressed with some fine running in a strong field.
