Tahira Wasti laid to rest

KARACHI - Popular television and theatre name of Pakistan Tahira Wasti passed away late on Sunday after a protracted illness.

She was buried here on Monday and her funeral was attended by hundreds of people belonging to all walks of life.

Tahira Wasti, 68, left behind talented TV actress daughter, Laila Wasti and son Adnan Wasti. She was wife of well-known Pakistan TV artist and showbusiness personality, Rizwan Wasti, who died in January 2011.

She started her long and illustrious career with Radio Pakistan in early 1960s and switched to television when Pakistan Television (PTV) was launched in 1968 and made her acting debut in television in the drama Jeb Kutra (pickpocket).

During her career Tahira acted in more than 250 dramas and serials and earned fame and accolade for her performances in such huge hits as Kashkol, Jaangloos, Afshaan, Shamma, Shaheen and Akhri Chatan.
