I am a 30-year-old man with a hair growth problem, particularly my facial hair. They seem to be growing unevenly - my moustache is thinner and has less growth than my beard. How can I improve my moustache's growth?

One of the proven remedies for hair growth is castor oil. Warm some castor oil and pat it on the patches of the face with scanty hair growth. Leave it on overnight and repeat every day for best results. Before applying the oil, ensure that you clean the area with a few drops of vinegar diluted with water. Vinegar cleans the hair and combats fungal infections, if any, as well.
I tend to get a lot of pimples, and they all happen to be on one area of my face - more specifically, my chin. The problem is that some of them stay for days, even weeks, and if they pop, they leave behind unsightly scars. It looks really ugly. How do I make these scars fade away while also stopping new pimples from forming?

Avoid hot, spicy foods and eat fresh green vegetables. Apply a mask of cinnamon and honey every day, and leave it on overnight for best results. Honey is both a cleanser and skin lightener and cinnamon improves blood circulation and cleanses toxins from the body.
I have been having trouble with my lips for a year now. They become very dry and a layer of dried skin forms like a peel almost every second day. I have been using petroleum jelly, but I need a cure. Please help!

Dry lips can be due to a diet low in natural oils or poor water intake. Make sure you are getting plenty of both. Apply a thin film of clarified butter or glycerine, with a few drops of lemon juice added to it, as a lip balm. Leave it on overnight. Glycerine provides moisture and lemon helps to repair the lips.
My mother's heels are terribly cracked and dry. What can she do to make them soft and smooth again?

Cracked heels can be cured with a rich mask of cornflour mixed with some glycerine, lime juice and a few drops of almond oil. Apply the mask and allow it to dry. Wear a pair of socks if you want to leave it on overnight. Rinse with cold water the next day. For quick results, do this everyday. Cornflour softens the skin, while glycerine moisturises. Lime juice helps to repair the skin and almond oil nourishes.
In an earlier column, you mentioned that onion juice was great for hair growth. I'm tempted to try it, but worried that it will make my hair smell? Please advise.
  • Saad
Onion juice provides nourishment and circulation to the hair follicles and is helpful in treating some fungal infections, all of which can aid in prevention of hair loss. You may add a little honey and a drop of lime juice to kill the smell of the onion. Both honey and lime juice double as cleansing agents as well.
