Editors Note: Robert is here
Robert De Niro

I also remember his cameo-like presence in The Untouchables, where, to my biased mind, he stole the show from everyone else (including the great Sean Connery, who won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for it).

Strangely enough, my favourite Robert De Niro film is NOT Raging Bull or Taxi Driver. It's a movie called Falling In Love, that has him falling for Meryl Streep; it's a retread of A Brief Encounter; and De Niro plays a man who's just madly in love - something off the beaten track considering he had, more or less, always played character roles before that (Falling in Love released in the early 80s). In Falling In Love, he was in character with romance, and I've never seen someone being this vulnerable. Most of his fans had panned the film but, till date, it remains my most loved film by the actor - and since he's one of my all-time faves, it has a firm place in my Top 10. I also remember his cameo-like presence in The Untouchables, where, to my biased mind, he stole the show from everyone else (including the great Sean Connery, who won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for it). Much later, I was happy to see him take on quirky roles in Meet The Parents and Silver Linings Playbook. Here is a man who is unafraid to experiment. Unlike, say, a Pacino, who's magnificent when he's intense and brooding and slightly unhinged, Robert De Niro has had a hell of a well-rounded acting curve. These days, he's making waves with The Intern; he's also making waves with news that he's one of the most in-demand actors. I would never rejoice over the latter because I don't want to be ageist: he's in his seventies, and that's a very good place to be in. No stops whatsoever. Read about Robert De Niro in our extended Hollywood section this time, and figure why he's one of a kind.
Pakistan has a new couture king. Faraz Manan. The good news is that he's opened shop in Dubai. The man, whose creations Kareena Kapoor swears by, says, "I don't follow trends. I make trends. My inspirations and favourite designers are Valentino and Oscar De La Renta." Get acquainted with Manan's designer dreams.
Halloween is around the corner. These days, it's quite the in thing to have kids ringing the bell, and yelling "trick or treat?". Keep your homes full of candies. I will. If you're up for some creative art in the kitchen, we have for you a full range of Halloween fare: they look gorgeous (yes, even RIP can look lip-smacking!), and should be a sight for sore eyes. In Bollywood, have your fill of the gorgeous Aishwarya Rai, as she "comes back" - post-motherhood - in a remake of the Korean hit Seven Days. Meet Richard Parks, who converted the consequences of a life-altering injury into a sporting triumph.
All this and much more.
Enjoy reading wknd. and have a great weekend!
