I am 18 years old. Is there any way to avoid dry skin during these winter days? Thanks in advance.
- Hanna
Winter days do cause skin to feel dry. Eat nuts like walnuts, macadamia nuts and almonds. Seeds, like sesame sprinkled onto your food, fruits and salads will also help. Massage the skin with coconut cream or avocado - or make a mask with almond powder, rich coconut milk and honey and use this instead of soap to cleanse the skin. Drink 10 to 12 glasses of water daily; avoid cold water; add slices of lemon in warm water, and drink up - it adds flavour and helps skin quality.
I am 13 years old and I hate how my hands look. I have these problems: 1) I have psoriasis, so I get white flaky spots on my knuckles; 2) I have a habit of biting my nails when I get nervous - as a result, I have dark cuticles and dull nails; 3) I have noticed that my hands are getting rougher and knuckles getting darker. Please help!

Oats are very gentle on the skin. Take 1 tablespoon powdered oats, 1 teaspoon powdered sesame seeds, 1 teaspoon rose water and enough aloe vera gel to make a mask. Apply the mask on dry, flaky areas, and also on hands and knuckles. Rinse off when dry, and apply a few drops of almond oil on damp skin; massage well. For nails, every night apply a mix of lemon juice and olive oil on them, and massage well. This treatment will make nails healthy, and lighten the knuckles too.
I am a 15-year-old girl and enjoy reading your column. Can you please suggest a natural oil cleanser and toner? Also, I have lots of blackheads on my nose: can you please suggest a home remedy for them?
- Maham
If you are looking for a natural cleanser and toner, take 1 teaspoon rosewater and add 4 drops of tea tree oil; this works as a cleanser and toner for the skin. For blackheads, make a mask by mixing baking soda and rose water. Apply on nose. When dry, scrub off the blackheads. Do this thrice a week to get rid of blackheads.

I am a 12-year-old girl. The area above my lips and below my nose have a thick growth of hair. I also get dandruff in my eyebrows. Can you please suggest effective remedies?

Thick, sticky rice starch is good for hair removal. Add half-a-teaspoon turmeric to the starch, and apply on the dry upper lip area after cleansing it. When dry, scrub gently against hair growth. Do this thrice a week, and you will get great results. For eyebrow dandruff: take a dry tissue, scrub eyebrows; then, apply aloe vera gel on the eyebrows, and massage well. Leave on for 5 minutes. This will cleanse the brows and clear dandruff gradually if done everyday. Always make sure you wash your face to rinse off the aloe vera gel from the brow.

My skin is mostly soft, but my chin is getting rough these days due to constant threading and cuts caused by threading. Is there any remedy for this problem?
- Junita
Just take a small piece of papaya, and rub well on your chin; rinse off after 20 minutes. Do this treatment every day. Papaya exfoliates dead dry skin. Your skin will be soft, smooth and clear.
