A National Meteorology and Seismology Centre spokesman said fog which set in over Abu Dhabi and parts of Dubai about 9pm last night had lifted by about 5am this morning.

“The density of this fog was increasing til about reaching its highest about 2 o’clock in the morning.'

The south-easterly wind has started to accelerate over the region causing the fog to dissipate, he said.

He said high pressure typically associated with the winter months, peaking in February, trapped moisture in the lower atmosphere which caused the heavy fogs seen recently.

“We will witness a high frequency of fog (in February)”.

It could get worse but “it depends on the pressure systems affecting the country”, he said.

Meanwhile, the country is in line for some poor weather over the next few days, with cool temperatures, rain, heavy winds, rough seas and even sand clouds coming in from Iraq all forecast.
