Banks in UAE are urging all clients to renew their Emirates ID details before Friday, February 15.
The cut-off date will see ATM cards temporarily stop working, as per the Central Bank's directives. This pre-empts the official cut-off time given by the authority which is on February 28.
Automatic payments and credit cards will also be halted during this time, according to an Ittihad report.
This decision will also affect finance companies in the UAE.
The Central Bank clarified that this decision will not affect teller services at the banks' customer service centres.
No additional charges, conditions or fines can be levied on clients during this period, stressed the statement.
Banks have been instructed to inform and facilitate the updating of details for their clients.
Clients can update their details in five ways:
1- Bank's website
2- Emailing the bank a photocopy of the ID
3- Mobile banking
4- ATM machine
5- Customer service centres
Messages informing clients of the importance of updating their information have been making the rounds. Cards for the spouse or children in the client's name will also be affected by the pre-emptive deadline.
Client's details which have been updated via e-banking can take up to 10 days to process fully.
ATM machine updates will be processed within a minute.
