Talib Julfar, CEO for the infrastructure services sector of the Dubai Municipality, said the department prepared an integrated plan to clean up celebration sites, including the Burj Khalifa area, Business Bay, beaches extending from Jumeirah Beach to Dubai Marina and the Burj Al Arab, the Sheikh Zayed Road, Downtown Dubai and Dubai Water Canal.
An integrated team of 1,802 workers and volunteers, 1,066 of the municipality's cleaners and 30 specialised supervisors helped clear 87 tonnes of waste from the sites "in record time".
The civic body also distributed 200 additional waste containers of different sizes in more crowded areas, and a number of brooms were also provided to clean the main roads.

Abdulmajeed Saifaie, director of the waste management department, said the municipality also succeeded in inviting 736 volunteers, who helped workers in the operations. "The cleaning operation started at 5pm and continued till 6am the following day, allowing us to complete it in record time before 8am," said Saifaie.
A 'Sand Team', comprising 40 officers and observers and 500 cleaners, was on standby in case of emergencies.
On Tuesday, crews cleared up Downtown Dubai back to its original state in just three hours. The official Twitter account of Downtown Dubai by Emaar tweeted special thanks to the facility management for restoring the area that saw dazzling fireworks and wild celebrations to welcome 2019.
