Dr Hashim Al Nuaimi, Director of the Consumer Protection Department, Ministry of Economy called on consumers to exercise thrift in their spending habits throughout the holy month of Ramadan.
"People should buy products and goods according to their needs. Goods will be made available throughout the month of Ramadan.
"Consumers should ponder their purchases be it during Ramadan or throughout the year. Set a budget for the month of Ramadan and stick to it," he added, as per Emarat Al Youm report.
He called on consumers to refrain from making random purchases or daily shopping, as some do in Ramadan, as it is "important to purchase essential goods instead of non-essential ones.|
He warned, "Excessive consumer demand may push merchants to raise their prices."
Al Nuaimi stressed: "Shopping centres and co-operative societies, that Ramadan offers should include price reductions in meat, poultry and other commodities primarily consumed in Ramadan."
He called on consumers to "inform the Ministry of Economy via its call center to take action against violators."
