Two Emiratis courageously acted to save the lives of 100 workers and a young girl, in two separate fire incidents this week.
In the first, 18-year-old Ibrahim Mohammed was returning from Dubai to Ajman through Shaikh Ammar Street, when he spotted a fire at a construction company premises in Al-Rawdah 3 area, with flames going up all over the place.
He rushed to the spot, broke the doors open and evacuated more than 100 workers who were sleeping inside the building, saving so many lives and preventing injuries with his brave actions.
In the second incident, Hamad Al Husani, while on his way to complete some government formalities, saw smoke was rising from a villa in Al Hamidiya area and a 15-year-old girl standing at the second-floor window, crying out for help.
He immediately called the civil defence and then tried to enter the house, but heavy smoke prevented him from seeing the entry to the second floor. He went out, brought a ladder and helped the girl climb down. The civil defence teams doused the fire and managed to save two other people from suffocation and rushed them to the hospital.
Brigadier Abdul-Aziz Ali Al Shamsi, director general of the Ajman Civil Defence, honored the two young men for their quick thinking and bravery in the face of emergencies and saving lives.
Brig Al Shamsi praised the young citizens' heroism, saying that this is an example on how to extend a helping hand, befitting the values of the nation. He added that various awareness programmes were implemented by the department periodically, for community members, public and private outfits to reduce the loss of human lives and proerties.
The public are urged to report emergency incidents on 997.
